The name has been released of a 12-year-old girl who died in a weekend house fire.

According to officials, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Saturday, Middleborough Fire and Police were dispatched to 27 Pearl Street for a report of a structure fire with people trapped inside.

Companies arrived on scene and found heavy fire coming from the first and second floors of the home. They made an aggressive attack to prevent extension to nearby buildings.

Other companies attempted to access the home to rescue 12-year-old Jasmine Lane who was reportedly still inside, but they were unable to get inside the home due to heavy fire conditions.

Once the fire was knocked down, she was found deceased inside the home.

A 61-year-old grandmother to the children was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with burn injuries and is currently in critical condition, while a 59-year-old grandfather and another juvenile female were both transported by ambulance to local hospitals with less severe injuries.

The grandparents were watching the children while the parents were away.

Jasmine had three siblings who survived the fire. She was described by family as a smart, loving, good-hearted and charismatic girl that was always smiling and loved her friends and family. Jasmine attended Nichols Middle School in Middleboro.

A vigil was held for the family on Saturday evening organized by community members.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized for the Lane family, by their landlord.

A meal train has also been organized for the family by those in the community.

The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature but is still under investigation by the Middleborough Fire Department, the Middleborough Police Department, the Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
