There has been much speculation surrounding the death of 37-year old Jesse Ousley of Westport. Police are investigating after he was found injured in Fall River last Tuesday and later passed away in Rhode Island Hospital.
There have been reports circulating on social media that Ousley was beaten to death by two black men over his Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” hat. Most of those articles have been removed or unpublished, yet the speculation remains in social media.
When Fall River Reporter contacted the Fall River Police Department, we were told that the incident is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police and the Fall River Police Department and no other details would be released.
Fall River Reporter later contacted Chief Jeff Cardoza, who stated via email: “In speaking with the Detectives involved in the investigation, there was never any mention or evidence of any kind that this involved a MAGA hat. Not sure where that information came from.”
Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office stated, “the matter is an unattended death with an undetermined cause at this time. The investigation is ongoing and we are awaiting more medical forensic medical testing.”
Since Jesse Ousley’s death, we contacted several friends and family members of Ousley who seemed unclear on the details of the incident and just wanted to know what happened to Jesse and justice for anyone who may have been involved.

The police stated that they have no awareness of the stated object, they did not say that they have investigated and proven in fact that the object was not present or otherwise involved.

How about you talk to one of the people who who picked him up off the sidewalk or changed his blood soaked clothing in his cousins house while waiting for paramedics…these people will confirm he had on his Trump hat…because he always did…he had several. Not someone who reached out and called someone when he didn’t even die in that state when they have every motive to downplay this. Sloppy reporting, you think you would reach out smh.
On has to wonder if he would have survived if there hadn’t been a detour to his cousin’s house to change clothes.

Many people who have head trauma of brain injuries are not aware of it. Then it gets them. So sad.
The Chief’s comment seems weak at best “Not sure where this information came from” or “there was never any mention.” This is not a denial and I hope your paper keeps investigating, challenging and holding the police accountable. This sounds shady.

First off why would the chief give any information on a case that is being investigated may a lawsuit against Chief Cardoza is in order.
He almost always wore a MAGA, KAG hat or hat that said Trump2020.

Where was he before this? I read visiting a friend at a hospital and then was walking to a convenience store. Should be easy to pull surveillance footage from the hospital or on the street to see if he WAS wearing a MAGA hat??? Do some real reporting and stop repeating verbatim what the police say.

The headline is not only misleading, but it seems to be written by a 4th grader: “Chief Cardoza: No MAGA hat involved in Jesse Ousley’s Fall River involved death.” Does this news outlet have an editor?
Notice how when you google Jesse Ousley’s name, the stories dismissing the attack are at the top!
