Woman loses her home, her car, after it goes up in flames in Bristol County parking lot

What do you do when your car goes up in flames and your car was your home?

On December 5th at approximately 8:30 p.m., Seekonk crews responded to the Walmart parking lot for a vehicle consumed by flames (a request to officials on what caused the fire has not yet been answered).

At the time, it was reported that the occupant in the vehicle escaped, but she was homeless living in the vehicle at the time with her 6 cats.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser created by Shaelyn Heath, the 70 years old, named Linda, recently lost her husband.

“She was sleeping when the fire started, and I happened to be in the parking lot when it happened. Me, my mom, and a few other amazing people helped her that night by going into Walmart and getting a few essentials for her. She had no shoes, no jacket, I gave her the shoes I was wearing and a blanket I had in my trunk.”

Heath gave Linda her phone number that night and she reached out a couple of days later. Heath stated that Linda’s ex-husband picked her and the cats up after the fire, and she has been staying with him, but due to unforeseen circumstances, she cannot stay there any longer. Linda also doesn’t want to part with all of the cats as they mean everything to her.

“She gave two of the cats to the animal shelter so they could be adopted. She still has 4 cats. She has asked me to help her create this GoFundMe so she can try to get back on her feet. She has reached out to a few homeless shelters, but they are full. Motels/hotels won’t take the cats, and if they do take cats, they are $35 per cat.”
