Woman found dead who hadn’t been heard from in years and previously resided in Florida, California, Colorado, New York, Maryland, Virginia, Massachusetts

The Cranston Police Department has identified the pedestrian who was fatally struck by a motor vehicle in the early morning hours on Sunday. 

The victim has been identified by the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s Office as Vaune Vacarro, age 56. Her last known address was in Utica, New York. 

Investigators have learned that Vacarro’s relatives had not seen or heard from her in several years and described her as homeless and transient. According to family members, Vacarro had previously resided in multiple states, including Florida, California, Colorado, New York, Maryland, Virginia, and Massachusetts. 

At this time, no missing person report had been filed for Vacarro prior to the crash. 

The Cranston Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding why Vacarro was in the area at the time she was struck. As part of the ongoing investigation, officers are checking nearby homeless encampments and following up on any information that may help establish her movements prior to the incident.

Vacarro is described as a white female, approximately 5’4 and 114 pounds. She was wearing a black jacket over a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans, and pink shoes.
