Woman facing animal cruelty charges after over 60 cats found in apartment
A woman is facing charges after an apartment was left so repulsive that police had difficulty going inside due to the smell.
According to WJAR, 63 cats, which turned into 71 due to pregnancies, were left alone in a two-bedroom apartment on Dulude Avenue in Woonsocket after the tenant relocated.
According to Captain John Picard, the smell was so bad that he had to stay outside of the apartment.
The discovery was made when the owner of the property went to change the locks on the residence.
Woonsocket Police have charged Jane Marie Feliz, 57, with animal cruelty.
Picard believes that Feliz didn’t have the financial means to take care of the animals properly. Little to no food and water was left behind for the animals.
Local shelters are paying for vaccinations, spaying, and neutering for the pets.
Now the police are left trying to get the animals adopted.
Call the Woonsocket Police Department at 401-769-4444 if you are interested in taking home one of the cats.
