With Somerset cooling towers coming down in April, will you watch? Will you push the button?
According to several media outlets and Somerset Town selectman Holly McNamara, the cooling towers at the Brayton Point cooling towers are finally coming down on April 27th (rain date April 28th).
The towers having long been an eyesore for some residents of the area, especially considering the beauty of the backdrop.
Despite concerns from residents in the area of the towers, Commercial Development Company Executive Vice President Steve Collins doesn’t believe that there will be hazardous material that will impact the neighborhoods. Walls will also be kept up to limit dust.
During the implosion of the cooling towers, there will be road closures, including a rolling road block on I-195 near the towers and a detour on highway 103.
Commercial Development Company is sponsoring a raffle where the winner will be allowed to push the button that will demolish the towers. The $20 dollar raffle ticket price will benefit the Vietnam Memorial Wall that is scheduled to be built at the Fall River waterfront. You will be able to buy tickets here.
Will you watch? If so, what spot will you pick out?
