FALL RIVER — Superintendent Tracy Curley has announced that longtime educator Elizabeth McKinnon has been appointed the new Principal of the Early Learning Center and the Early Learning Center at Bishop Connolly.

McKinnon, who grew up in Fall River and attended the city’s schools, is entering her 31st year working in Fall River Public Schools. She will oversee the day-to-day operations of two of the district’s three Early Learning Centers, which are a part of the district’s efforts to expand pre-K for the community.

“Betsy has dedicated her life to serving Fall River students, particularly our youngest generation,” Superintendent Curley said. “I am delighted to see her continue serving our youth in her new role as Principal in our formative Early Learning Centers.”

McKinnon began her career in Fall River Public Schools three decades ago. She has worked with the preschool population since 2007 and prior to that she taught first grade. She received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from then-Bridgewater State College and her master’s in special education from Providence College.

“I am excited for this opportunity to continue working with our youngest learners,” McKinnon said. “Preschool has been a passion of mine for a long time and I look forward to meeting the needs of our students.”

McKinnon is mother to four adult children and lives with her husband in Little Compton, Rhode Island.

The district’s goal is to combine the two locations into one center for the 2025-26 school year.
