Winter Storm Watch upgraded to Warning as snow amounts jump for southern New England
The bigger snow totals are back on.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the area from 7:00 a.m. Monday to 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph are also expected for portions of southeastern Massachusetts and northern and southern Rhode Island.
Confidence has grown that the rain/snow line will be far enough south to allow snowfall amounts of a foot or more.
Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Snow will be heavy and wet across Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts. This may increase the risk for power outages, in addition to the gusty northeast winds.
If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
