What was thought to be alcohol, sickens Fall River man
Authorities are investigating after a Fall River man was exposed to possibly deadly chemicals Tuesday evening at a Fall River storage facility.
At approximately. 7:00 p.m., a call came in regarding a man that had come in contact with chemicals at Extra Space Storage on Quequechan Street.
According to WPRI 12 News, Robert Assad had burning and difficulty breathing after opening antique bottles he had won in an auction that he brought to the facility.
According to Fall River Fire Captain Neil Furtado, upon arrival, the fire chief saw the 60-year-old bottles in the storage unit and called in a state hazmat team after feeling unsure of what was inside.
Some of the bottles were deemed to be safe, while Furtado said Assad reportedly knew others contained poisonous strychnine powder which can also be known as rat poison.
Assad said he was told by the auction company that whiskey were in the bottles.
