What could have been a possible major snowstorm in southern New England is now looking like a minor event.

According to the National Weather Service, the possible winter storm for this weekend is taking a more offshore track, leaving small snow totals in southern New England if any at all.

The forecast:

Today

A slight chance of snow showers between 9am and 2pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 29. Northwest wind 15 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight

Mostly clear, with a low around 22. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Friday

Sunny, with a high near 39. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Friday Night

Increasing clouds, with a low around 24. Light northwest wind.

Saturday

A chance of snow, mainly after 7am. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Calm wind becoming northwest around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday Night

A slight chance of snow before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
