Weymouth Police Department remembers officer killed in the line of duty 5 years ago
On this day, the Weymouth Police Department is remembering Sergeant Micheal C. Chesna, a 6-year veteran of the Weymouth Police Department who was shot and killed 5 years ago today after responding to reports of an erratic operator near South Shore Hospital.
Upon arrival, the 42-year-old Chesna observed the vehicle had crashed and the driver was vandalizing a home nearby. Sergeant Chesna was reportedly struck in the head with a large rock, disarmed and allegedly fatally shot by the suspect, who also fatally shot Vera Adams in her home. The suspect was subsequently arrested by responding officers and taken into custody. The suspect has since been charged with two counts of homicide.
Sergeant Chesna was a U.S. Army Veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife and two children. Sergeant Michael C. Chesna five years have passed, you are not forgotten.
The suspect, Emanuel Lopes, had a mistrial in his case this week and will be retried by the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
