Westport, Tiverton, Dartmouth Fire Departments respond to late-night fire at market

Several local fire departments responded to a late-night fire at a market.

According to the Westport Fire Department, Westport firefighters responded to a reported structure fire around 2:00 a.m. last night at Westport Market on American Legion Highway.

First arriving firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the building. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire before it spread into the attic space. Structural damage was minimal, however the building did suffer from significant smoke damage.

The fire, which is not considered suspicious, appears to have started in a piece of refrigeration equipment.

Mutual aid was received from Tiverton Fire and Dartmouth Fire District 3.
