Westport shooting that injured 15-year-old girl results in list of firearm and drug charges for local man

A Westport shooting has resulted in the arrest of a local man on a list of drug and gun charges.

According to Lieutenant Bryan McCarthy, last Saturday, at approximately 7:57 a.m., the Westport Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a female had been shot at a residence on Eddy Drive.

Responding officers arrived on scene and located a 15-year-old female suffering from a gunshot wound to her hand. The victim was transported to a Rhode Island hospital for treatment of injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers identified 19-year-old Vijay Hak as being involved in the shooting. A shotgun was located in the first-floor kitchen area of the residence and was rendered safe by officers at the scene. Hak complied with officers’ commands and was detained without incident.

Detectives were called to the scene and initiated an investigation. As a result of that investigation, Hak was placed under arrest. Detectives subsequently obtained a search warrant for the residence to search for additional contraband. During the execution of the warrant, detectives located a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms and Xanax. The search was paused while detectives applied for and were granted an additional warrant related to narcotics.

Upon resuming the search, detectives located additional narcotics and contraband, including a Polymer 80 “ghost gun.”

According to court records, Vijay Hak is set to be arraigned Monday in Fall River District Court on the following charges:

 Firearm, Possess Large Capacity
 Possession of Large Capacity Feeding Device
 Improper Storage of Firearm — Large Capacity
 Improper Storage of Firearm — Non-Large Capacity
 Possession of Ammunition
 Discharge of Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Building
 Possession of Shotgun Without FID/LTC
 Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,200 (Shotgun)
 Drug, Possession With Intent to Distribute Class C — Psilocybin Mushrooms
 Drug, Possession With Intent to Distribute Class C — Alprazolam (Xanax)
 Drug, Possession With Intent to Distribute Class E — Codeine Phosphate
 Drug, Possession With Intent to Distribute Class B — Amphetamine (Adderall)
 Drug, Possession With Intent to Distribute Class A — Tapentadol

This remains an active investigation.
