Westport senior making waves and breaking records in the pool, headed to nationals

A local teen continues to make waves in the pool both locally and nationally.
18-year-old Brandon Medeiros, a Westport senior, the son of Erika and Josh Medeiros, and the grandson of Beverly and Eugene Frezza, has qualified for the “National YMCA Swim Event” to be held in Greensboro, North Carolina during the week of April 1-5, 2025.
At New England’s earlier this month, Brandon broke his own record in the breaststroke that he holds at the YMCA in New Bedford to qualify for the national swimming event.
Last year, Medeiros won two gold medals at the Olympic-style event Games of America in San Diego, California for both long and short course breaststroke swim.
Brandon has been training and competing at the New Bedord YMCA for the past seven years and states that he would not be the swimmer he is without the training and guidance of his coach Brett Pacheco.
Medeiros’ dream is to become the best swimmer he is capable of through discipline and hard work, and he is well on his way.
Brandon will be graduating from Westport High School in June and will be attending Springfield College in the fall.
