Westport Police arrest Westport, Fall River, Swansea, New Bedford residents on various charges
Over the course of the last few days, five people had been arrested by the Westport Police Department for various offenses.
According to Detective Sergeant Christopher Dunn, on Friday October 2, the Westport Police Department received a complaint of a Violation of an Abuse Prevention Order. A subsequent investigation by Officer David Leite resulted in 57-year-old John M. Grota from Tickle Road, Westport, being arrested. Grota was arraigned at Fall River Second District Court and given a future hearing date.
On Sunday, October 4, Officer Alberio Mendina was parked on Old Bedford Road in the area of Route 195 and the exit 9 off ramp observed a vehicle travel through the stop sign and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Officer Medina discovered the operator, 59-year-old John Berube from Shove Street, Fall River, had a suspended license. After placing Beurbe under arrest, he was found to be in possession of brass knuckles. Berube was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License (Subsequent Offense) and Carry a Dangerous Weapon (brass knuckles).
On Sunday, October 4, Officer, Jeremey Dellecese was operating a marked police cruiser on State Road (Route 6) when he observed a motor vehicle traveling at him on the wrong side of the highway. He also stated that the vehicle had its high beam lights illuminated. Officer Dellecese was able to stop this vehicle and informed the driver he was operating on the wrong side of the road. Subsequent field sobriety testing revealed 33-year-old Yuri Fernandes, of Washington Street Apt 2 New Bedford, was Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol and he was placed into custody. Fernandes was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (2nd Offense), Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License and One Way Violation.
On Monday, October 5, Officer Jeremy Dellecese was on patrol on State Road when he queried the registration to a Chrysler Aspen. The registration came back to a Chrysler Town and Country. A subsequent investigation revealed the operator, 48-year-old S. Ronald Parker, Burnside Avenue, Swansea, provided bill of sale and title in which the dates did not match on the documents, according to police, along with no purchaser information listed on the title of the vehicle he was now operating. During the course of the investigation, Officer Dellecese observed a clear plastic baggie that was on the floor in front of the driver’s seat. The substance was believed to be cocaine. Parker was placed under arrest for Possession of Class B Controlled Substance (Cocaine). During the booking process, another clear glassine baggie fell out of Parker’s pant leg. This substance is believed to be crack cocaine. Parker was charged with Attaching Plates, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Unregistered Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Class B (Controlled Substance) Subsequent Offense.
On Monday, October 5, Officer Michael Chicca was dispatched to 41 Jiggs Street Westport regarding a complaint of a Violation of an Abuse Prevention. Further investigation resulted in 53-year-old Shawn Borges of the same address being placed under arrest for Violation of an Abuse Prevention.
