Westport Police arrest man after break-in at Lees Supermarket

A local man is facing charges after an incident that took place at a market this week.

According to police, on Tuesday morning, Westport Police responded to Lees Supermarket on Main Road to investigate a reported break in at the liquor store that occurred sometime during the overnight hours.

Upon arrival, officers observed a broken exterior window and a broken interior door window. Officers also located two broken liquor bottles on the ground outside the building.

Detectives responded to process the scene and continue the investigation. Through video surveillance and other investigative means, detectives developed a potential suspect.

On Wednesday, Westport Police responded to an address on Kirby Road to speak with the potential suspect, 24-year-old Jacob Farias. Upon arrival, detectives and patrol officers located Faria in the backyard. Farias attempted to flee on foot, resulting in a short foot pursuit.

Officers apprehended Farias a short distance away.

He was placed under arrest, booked at the Westport Police Department, and transported to the Fall River Justice Center.

Farias is being charged with Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime and Larceny from a Building.

He was arraigned Wednesday in Fall River District Court and pled not guilty. He was released on personal recognizance with a pretrial hearing scheduled for October 29th.
