Westport man held on bail, facing drug and other charges after alleged incident on Route 6

A local man is facing multiple charges after an early morning traffic stop.

According to police, on Tuesday, at approximately 1:45 a.m., Officer Zackary Berube of the Westport Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop of a vehicle speeding in violation of a posted limit in the area of State Road (Route 6) and Pine Needle Avenue.

Officer Berube made contact with the sole operator of the vehicle and identified the male as 61-year-old Russell Teasdale of Main Road, Westport, who currently had a suspended driving license status in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Teasdale was placed under arrest for the offense. While conducting a pat frisk of Teasdale, Officer Berube located a pipe in his pocket commonly used for smoking crack cocaine.

During a subsequent search of Teasdale’s motor vehicle, Sergeant Luc Sauvé and Officer Tristin Costa located 29 grams of a white, powdery substance in a plastic baggie which was suspected to be Cocaine, along with a second crack pipe and an electronic measuring scale.

Teasdale is being charged with the following criminal offenses:

-Ch. 94C Sec. 32E: Trafficking Cocaine over 18 Grams , less than 36 Grams

-Ch. 90 Sec. 23: Operating a Motor Vehicle w/ a Suspended License

-Ch. 90 Sec. 18: Speeding in Violation of Special Regulation

Court records show that at arraignment Tuesday in Fall River District Court, Teasdale pled not guilty and was held in lieu of having posted $30,000 bond; $3,000 cash, returnable for a probable cause hearing scheduled for September 8th.
