Somerset, Westport, join much of Southcoast in the red as Massachusetts sees nearly 1,000 cases in Thursday report

Massachusetts saw an increase in hospitalizations in Thursday’s COVID-19 report.

Massachusetts has seen 986 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Wednesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate increased to 1.4% after several increases over the past week.

Massachusetts had seen 821 more positive cases announced yesterday.

The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 143,927 with 30 more reported dead for a total of 9,589.

17,966 tests were performed on new individuals, over 5,200 more than yesterday’s report, to increase the amount of individuals tested to 2,580,213. The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 5,441,066.

The 3 day average of COVID-19 deaths increased to 16.

Hospitalizations have increased in 25 of the last 38 days and increased by 2 today to see the total rise to 521.

Westport and Somerset joined much of the Southcoast in the red in the weekly report.

Massachusetts residents subject to COVID-19 quarantine by current status up to October 21st
• Total of individuals subject to quarantine: 98,806
• Total of individuals who have completed monitoring (no longer in quarantine): 94,080
• Total of individuals currently undergoing monitoring/under quarantine: 4,726

According to the CDC, as of October 22nd, the total amount of COVID-19 cases in the country is 8,312,667 with 221,438 dead.
