Westport girls basketball team raises money for families of fallen officers and firefighters
A local basketball team has once again combined their efforts to make the community a better place.
Westport Varsity girls basketball coach Mike Ponte and his team hosted their third annual charity event Thursday night.
The final numbers haven’t fully been tallied, but the evening can already be considered a success as over $3,600 was raised. This year, the fundraiser used donations, a raffle, and a coin collection to amass the total.
The team, with the help of the community has raised over $9,000 for charity in the last three years, according to Ponte.
The money raised this year is going towards The 100 Club of Massachusetts which supports the families of fallen police officers and firefighters in Massachusetts.
In addition to Ponte, the team consists of Leah Sylvain, Payton Mahjoory, Lily Pichette, Jessica Carney, Lacey Chaunt, Korynne Holden, Abby Silvia, Sarah Carney, Sarah Perry, Alora Defonseca, Marissa Hazel, Abbey Gaudreau, Meghan Molloy, Isis Obolonesky, and Laura Martel
