Westport family-owned Deli and Butcher Shop closes its doors after 2+ years in business; property won’t be vacant for long
A Westport business has closed after being open for 2+ years.
Countryside Market, a family-owned Deli and Butcher Shop offering soup, salad, sandwiches, power bowls, prepared meals, coffee, and desserts has closed.
The business at 549 American Legion Highway announced that this past Saturday would be their last day in business.
“We have some sad news to share with you. Although we have put our hearts and souls into our business, we had to make the hard decision to close. THIS WILL BE OUR LAST WEEK.
“We want to thank all of our amazing customers, staff, family and friends for all your love and support the last 2+ years. We truly appreciate each and every one of you.
The spot apparently won’t be vacant for long, according to Countryside.
“Keep your eyes open over the next few weeks when passing bye for the grand opening of another great cafe.”
Ownership had expressed financial troubles in May through a GoFundMe fundraiser.
“My name is Lisa, and I am the owner of Countryside Market, LLC in Westport, Massachusetts. What started out 21 months ago as a new chapter in my life after losing my job of 35 years has sadly taken everything my husband and I have worked so hard for.
“We are a small local deli/butcher shop that serves sandwiches, salads, power bowls, soups and scratch made take home meals along with our deli meat and butcher counter and some amazing desserts. Our little shop was a complete startup with no floors, walls, plumbing or electricity. Just a shell. We put our heart and soul in to making our little dream a reality. We have new people finding us every day but unfortunately, we are not currently growing fast enough, and I am in desperate need of support to keep my business alive.
“It is with a heavy heart that I find myself in the tough position of possibly losing my home. My 78-year-old mother lives with my husband and I and we will all be homeless if I am unable to buy some time and turn things around. I am looking into finding investors or someone to purchase my business so that I can get out of this mess and not lose my house. I would love to stay on and manage the day-to-day operations, if they will have me.
“In the meantime, I need HELP! I need to raise $50,000 to catch up on paying my past due invoices and continue to be able to purchase food and pay my employees while keeping the lights on. Any little bit will help, and I truly appreciate any support from friends, family, customers, former colleagues and total strangers during these tough times for all of us.
