Westport, Fall River, Dartmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton crews extinguish fire that destroys home
Several local fire departments combined to extinguish a weekend fire at a residence.
According to the Westport Fire Department, Westport firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire just before 7:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
The first arriving engine company had heavy smoke coming from the eaves, with fire venting from the roof of the one-story residential structure located on Christopher Drive off of Sanford Road.
All occupants made it out safely, and while the home did suffer significant damage, firefighters were able to preserve many personal belongings and sentimental keepsakes.
Westport Chief 1, Chief 2, Engine 1, 2, 3, Ladder 7, Tanker 1, Rehab 1, Rescue 1, responded to the scene, aided by mutual aid from Dartmouth Fire District 3, Fall River Fire, Little Compton Fire and Tiverton Fire. Westport Police assisted with traffic and Dartmouth Fire District 2 covered headquarters while firefighters worked the scene. Westport Police E911 dispatchers handled communications. The American Red Cross is assisting the occupants with the recovery process.
The cause, which is not considered suspicious, is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigation Unit. There were no injuries.
