Westport Fair will not be held in 2021, but all is not lost
The Westport Fair will not be held for the second straight year, however, all is not lost.
According to President Ron Potter, the Westport Fair Committee met recently and after much discussion it was voted not to hold the fair in July.
“We will, however, have a small fair in the fall of 2021. The fair committee looks forward to planning and seeing everyone once again.”
Back in May of 2020, the Executive Board of the Westport Fair revealed in a statement the results of a vote that canceled the annual Fair due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It is doubtful from all our gathered guidance that several thousand people would be allowed to gather and celebrate our Agricultural Heritage in July. It appears even sporting events in the fall will be held in empty stadiums.”
“The Executive Board held off as long as possible but time is short in the planning as it is necessary to notify our vendors, police and security details, carnival people, tractor and truck pulling club, 4- h groups, exhibitors etc. so that they too can plan.”
“We will say this to you all, come July, remember all the good times that have happened on the Fair Grounds and smile, but more importantly, remember how much sweeter next year and the coming years will be after missing just this one year.”
“Be safe and more importantly be strong and we will persevere through this tragedy as this nation has done through many past generations of hard-working country folk.”
Potter says to stay tuned for details on the small fair.
