Westport child fighting for life after Route 6 crash
A Westport crash last month that injured four family members, has left a child severely injured and a group has gotten together to lend a helping hand.
You may recall that on June 24th several people were injured in an accident in Westport. The accident occurred at 126 State Road (Route 6) in Westport at approximately 6:00 p.m.
Last month’s crash has left a child, Avah Medeiros, in a coma with severe head trauma. Doctors at Hasbro Children’s Hospital have given a grim prognosis. Two family members received minor injuries in the crash while Avah’s mother Monique severely broke her ankle according to Monique’s sister Cassandra.
Several community members have begun a fundraiser to help the family with the mounting medical bills.
Sunday at the boardwalk at Battleship Cove from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., there will be Avah Strong bracelets available for $5 and t-shirts will be available for $15. Ermelinda Rego has also donated chocolate covered oreos and chocolate covered pretzels for purchase to lend to the cause.
