Westport and Tiverton Fire Departments extinguish flames at residence; “accessing the area was challenging”
Westport Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire Friday afternoon.
According to WFD, firefighters found a fire in the crawlspace of a home on Robert Street.
Accessing the area was challenging, but once they were able to cut the floor away, they were able to find the seat of the fire and extinguish it, before it spread any further.
Firefighters did an excellent job accessing the fire and extinguishing it quickly. As a result, the home remains habitable and while it will need some extensive cleanup, the occupants personal belongings were protected.
A dryer appears to be related to the cause of the fire, which is still under investigation.
Firefighters were assisted at the scene by a Tiverton engine company and Westport EMA provided rehab.
