Week full of events this week at Fall River Public Library including Comic-Con
The Fall River Public Library, 104 North Main Street, will celebrate Children’s Book Week (April 30th – May 6th) with several fun events for children and their families. A guest author visit, storytelling, and a Comic-Con are just some of the scheduled events.
Kicking off the week’s celebration on Tuesday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. will be local author Kelly Rosario, who will share her picture book, The Little Blue Train that Never Leaves My Side. In her debut picture book, the author shares an experience that many parents can relate to. A child becomes attached to a beloved toy that never leaves his side. A book signing will take place following the storytime, with copies available for purchase. This program will also be offered on Saturday, May 26 at 11:00 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Fall River Public Library.
The ever-popular Big Ryan’s Tall Tales returns to the library, Wednesday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m. in the Meeting Room. With the aid of his two faithful canine puppet companions, Edgar and Uncle Charlie, Big Ryan will spin an assortment of delightful tales and audience participation games guaranteed to engage listeners young and old. A children’s craft will follow the presentation. This program is made possible by a generous grant from the Fall River Women’s Union.
On Saturday, May 5th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Fall River Public Library will be hosting its very first Comic-Con, celebrating all things sci-fi, fantasy, superhero, and comic books. Some of the characters slated to appear during the afternoon include Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman, Kylo Ren, and Bumblebee. The afternoon will also feature a scavenger hunt, superhero mask craft, face painting, and a magic show presented by the sorcerer supreme, Dr. Strange! The magic show is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Winners of the library’s Fan Fiction Contest will also be announced.
In recognition of Free Comic Book Day, free comic books will also be made available to comic book lovers, compliments of Game King Comics & Collectibles. Children and adults are welcome to attend in costume with prizes to be awarded to the best male and female children’s outfits. This program is made possible with the support of the Fall River Women’s Union.
