A local teacher has been charged after being accused of assaulting a student.

According to police, earlier this month, the Portsmouth Police Department received a report alleging that a twelve-year-old Portsmouth Middle School student was assaulted in October 2025 by a teacher during class.

The teacher, identified as 62-year-old Kevin Reilly of Warren, reportedly grabbed the student’s arm and twisted the arm behind the student’s back while the student was seated at a desk.

The Portsmouth Police Department Detective Division conducted an investigation which included interviewing students who had witnessed the incident. As a result of the investigation an affidavit arrest warrant was issued. Reilly turned himself into police custody and was subsequently charged with Simple Assault.

Reilly was arraigned by a bail commissioner and released on $1,000 personal recognizance with a condition of having no contact with the victim.

Reilly will be formally arraigned at the 2nd Division District Court on Thursday.
