Warren and East Providence off-duty responders rescue trapped victim from burning home, help contain fire
2 local off-duty responders made a great save on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Warren Fire Department, at approximately 2:00 p.m., crews were dispatched near the dead end on South Cutler Street for a kitchen fire in the basement of a home with a trapped victim.
Lieutenant Freitas of Tower Ladder 1, who is a next-door neighbor, and off-duty Police Officer Ryan Feeney from East Providence Police, quickly sprang into action and entered the basement to help the occupants escape to safety. They also contained the fire with a faucet sprayer from a kitchen sink.
Warren FD mentioned that without the quick thinking and selflessness of the two men, the outcome could have resulted in personal injury or extensive damage.
