Wareham man sentenced after pleading guilty to killing woman he lived with

A Wareham man pleaded guilty Monday to charges that he stabbed a 57-year-old woman in her home, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.

Danny Sherman, now 58 years-old, pleaded guilty to one count each of Manslaughter and one count of Assault and Battery with a Deadly Weapon. He was sentenced to serve 8-10 years on the Manslaughter charge, and 10 years probation afterwards on the Assault charge.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on March 27, 2020, Wareham Police received a 911 call for a male in distress in a canoe in a waterway in the area of Marion Road in Wareham. First responders arrived located the male and he was transported to Tobey Hospital for treatment. The man was identified as Sherman.

Subsequently, police received information of a possible death at 3 Woodbridge Avenue in Wareham. Police responded to that address and found a 57-year-old female bleeding and unresponsive in the residence. The victim was determined to be dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel. The victim was identified as Mardiette Deboyes.

Wareham Police contacted Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and began the investigation. Through their investigation, police determined that Sherman lived with Deboyes in the home and stabbed the woman. Sherman was taken into custody.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner ruled the manner of Deboyes’ death was homicide and the cause was multiple sharp force injuries.
Assistant District Attorney Kevin O’Leary prosecuted the case, which was investigated by Massachusetts State Police Detectives and Wareham Police.
