Wanted Dartmouth man held on $250 bail after arrest on drug, unarmed robbery, larceny of a motor vehicle charges
A local man was arrested Monday morning and is being held on bail for a variety of serious offenses after officers located him in a stolen motor vehicle.
According to police, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Ofc. Nicholas Abbate responded to the CVS on Kempton Street in New Bedford for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. Security footage showed a male, later identified as 33-year-old Nicholas Ouimet of Dartmouth, going behind the counter and taking car keys along with several other items. The suspect then exited the store and drove out of the parking lot in the stolen vehicle.
About an hour and a half later, Ofc. Abbate received a report of a male slumped over in a vehicle at the intersection of Nemasket and Alva Streets. Officers responded and identified the driver as Ouimet. He was removed from the stolen vehicle and taken into custody. A search resulted in the seizure of a crack pipe and a small bag of cocaine.
As the investigation deepened, officers learned that Ouimet had also been involved in an unarmed robbery a few hours earlier at the Walgreens on Pleasant Street. During this incident, he approached an employee working at the counter. When the register was open, Ouimet seized the opportunity to shove the employee, grab cash, and flee the scene.
He now stands charged with unarmed robbery, assault and battery, larceny from a building, shoplifting by asportation, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a Class B drug, operating under the influence of drugs, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license. Ouimet was also found to have three outstanding warrants at the time of these incidents.
According to court records, at Monday’s arraignment, Ouimet pled not guilty and was being held on $250 cash bail returnable for a probable cause hearing on January 30th.
