Victim’s name released in fatal tractor trailer crash on Route 495
One person has been killed after a multi-vehicle crash this morning.
According to Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 6:47 a.m., Troopers assigned to State Police-Concord responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on I-495 northbound at exit 87 in Chelmsford. Troopers arriving on scene discovered a 2013 Hyundai Elantra that had been struck by a tractor trailer.
Troopers and EMS located the operator, Elmer Rivas, 48, of Worcester, who was declared deceased at the scene. The operator of the tractor trailer, a 39-year-old male from Amherst, Nova Scotia, advised of no injuries at the time.
The tractor trailer operator explained that Rivas was traveling in the left lane and tried to take the exit cutting off the truck. The exact circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police along with the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the State Police Detective Unit assigned to Worcester County. Troopers were assisted on scene by MassDOT, Chelmsford Fire, EMS, and Police.
