UPDATE: Police release names in fatal Saturday afternoon pedestrian crash
Police have released two names involved in Saturday’s fatal crash in Middletown, RI.
According to Captain Jason Ryan, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Middletown Police along with Middletown and Newport Fire Departments responded to 47 Ward Avenue for a report of a one car motor vehicle accident with injuries.
Upon arrival of personnel, emergency services rendered life saving measures to two pedestrian victims who had been struck by a vehicle backing out of the driveway at 46 Ward Avenue.
Gertrude Mackin, an 80 year old Middletown resident was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The second pedestrian, Tristan Mouligne also of Middletown, remains in Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle, a 2011 Jeep Cherokee, being operated by Christine Mouligne of Florida, was backing out of the driveway of 46 Ward Avenue. The vehicle backed directly across Ward Avenue and struck the two pedestrians along its path. The vehicle continued and came to a final rest after striking the front porch of 47 Ward Avenue, located directly across the street.
The Middletown Police Investigations Division along with the Department Accident Reconstruction(s) are currently working this investigation.
