Update issued, online fundraiser created, after blaze destroys home in Bristol
Officials have issued an update, and an online fundraiser has been created, after a devastating blaze that destroyed a home on Thursday.
According to the Bristol Fire Department, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the department responded to a report of a porch fire at 19 Lincoln Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire showing from a large three‑story residential building containing four apartment units.
The fire had rapidly extended from the porch into the interior of the structure, spreading through all three floors.
Fire department personnel initiated an aggressive exterior attack to knock down the heavy fire conditions before advancing inside to locate and extinguish fire that had traveled through wall voids and into the attic. The fire was brought under control within 30 to 60 minutes, with crews remaining on scene for several hours to conduct overhaul operations.
Working fire alarms alerted occupants, and all residents had safely exited the building prior to the department’s arrival.
One civilian and one fire department member were transported to area hospitals for evaluation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the RI State Fire Marshal.
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser, a mom and teenage son were among those whose home and personal belongings were lost.
The department extended its appreciation to their mutual aid partners for their assistance.
