PLYMOUTH – A Brockton man will serve life in prison for his role in the stabbing death of 44-year-old Eric Cohen, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.

On Wednesday, a jury found Keith Disharoom, 44, guilty of one count of First- Degree Murder.

On Friday, in Plymouth Superior Court, Disharoom was sentenced to serve the mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On the evening of July 18, 2021, Brockton Police received a 911 call for a report of an assault and battery with a knife happening in the vicinity of 553 North Main Street. Brockton Police and medical personnel arrived on scene and located an unresponsive male victim — later identified as Cohen — with two stab wounds to his upper chest. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital before being transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston where he was pronounced dead of his injuries.

Through witness interviews and video surveillance review, investigators with the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office and Brockton Police determined that an altercation took place between Cohen and Disharoom. During that altercation, Disharoom stabbed Cohen, while co-defendant Mark Stroud, 29, struck Cohen’s service dog and a nearby woman with a bat. Stroud is in custody awaiting trial on charges of First-Degree Murder, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Animal Cruelty.

Thankfully, the dog survived.

The case against Disharoom was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Shanan
Buckingham and Lindsay Smith.
