The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Monday, a 2008 Toyota Scion TC and a 2015 Honda Accord were northbound on Route 24 in West Bridgewater. As the Toyota changed lanes it made contact with the Honda; the impact projected the latter vehicle to the median where came into contact with a concrete barrier. The Toyota fled the scene.
As the Honda was stationary in the left travel lane, a 2022 Ford Maverick pickup struck the rear of the Honda, causing it to become fully engulfed in flames. The West Bridgewater Fire Department knocked down the car fire.
The operator of the Honda, 46-year-old Erpharo Gilbert of Raynham, was on her way to work the late shift at a Boston Hospital when she died at the scene. Gilbert leaves behind a husband and young son.
According to Boston 25 News, Parra Altamirano was arraigned in Brockton District Court and was held on $100,000 bail. Prosecutors stated that Parra Altamirano, who is from Ecuador, told investigators that he fled the scene of the crash because he is undocumented.
