U.S. Senator from Massachusetts Ed Markey blames Trump, Republicans, for rise in electricity bills in the Bay State

U.S. Senator from Massachusetts Ed Markey took to social media to point fingers as to why electric customers are outraged over electricity bills in the Bay State.

“I want to talk to you about what’s happening with your electricity bill. I’m sure that you’ve noticed that dollar sign on your monthly bill just keeps going up and up and up. You’re not imagining it, because since Trump took office, electricity prices have gone up 10%, twice as fast as the general cost of living, which is already on the rise. If your bill stresses you out more and more every single month, you’re not alone—one in three Americans are struggling to pay their utility bills.

“Why is that happening? Well, for starters, Trump and the Republicans are failing Econ 101. They’ve created a supply-and-demand problem, and everyday Americans are getting the short end of the stick. On the demand side, big tech is demanding big amounts of electricity for its data centers, and that is absolutely wrong. Trump is backing big tech at all costs. We’re seeing those costs on our bills every single month. Our electricity prices will rise by as much as 25% over the next four years, and probably higher, because of data centers. Meta, Google, Elon Musk, Open AI get the green light to eat up our energy, eat up our electricity, while our bank accounts go into the red.

“On the supply side, Trump is cutting off our cheapest and quickest to deploy sources of energy—wind and solar. Trump & Republicans cost hikes on clean energy will add at least $130 to your yearly electricity bill in just the next four years, while keeping much-needed power off of the grid. We get the blackouts and bills because they want bigger profits for their buddies, their fossil fuel buddies. And Trump’s other policies like his reckless tariffs and his forcing uneconomic, expensive old coal plants to stay open are driving prices up even further.

“So, if you’re getting more and more afraid to open up your electric bill every month, you can thank Trump and Republicans for their nightmare policies.”

Some Massachusetts customers have pointed out the rise in fees on their electric bills with some bills charging more in fees than the actual cost of electricity.

While Democrats blame Republicans for increase in demand and nixing green energy plans and Republicans blame Democrats for higher fees created by green initiatives, the public in the end, as usual, continues to foot the bill.
