Two unrelated city shootings in Fall River leads to arrests, injuries
At least two people are facing charges after two separate shootings in Fall River on Saturday.
According to police, on Saturday evening at approximately 10:15 p.m., the Patrol Bureau responded to Woodman Street for a report of shots fired.
Officers Darian Smith and Jacob Swenson responded and while enroute, observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed leaving the area. A motor vehicle stop was conducted. One of the occupants of the vehicle fled and a foot pursuit began. While the juvenile suspect was fleeing, he inadvertently discharged a firearm he was in possession of, shooting himself in the groin/upper thigh area.
Officers rendered medical aid, and the suspect was transferred to a local hospital where he is now recovering. A firearm was recovered as part of this investigation. The juvenile male will face charges associated with this incident.
While this scene was still active, another call for shots fired was received reported in the area of Charles Street. Officers flooded the area canvassing for the shooter. It was learned that an adult male had fired a gun in the air. Officer James Mello was canvassing the area and while traveling on Woodman Street observed a male matching the description of the alleged shooter. Officer Mello detained the male and discovered that he was in possession of several firearms and ammunition. He was taken into custody and is facing charges related to the incident.
Police stated that these two incidents were not directly related, and the safety of the public is not at risk and also recognized the officers involved.
“We also would like to recognize the dedicated officers of our patrol bureau who worked diligently last evening to bring the matter to a close. Officers came in early and stayed late to ensure we had the resources needed to complete the mission.”
