Two New Bedford men held without bail on drug charges after attempting to flee in 7-11 parking lot

Two local men were held without bail after being arrested on multiple drug charges.
According to police, Detectives from the Newport Police Vice and Narcotics Unit conducted an investigation into the distribution of Crack Cocaine in the City of Newport. During the course of their investigation, they identified a suspect as 25-year-old Kolby McCoy of New Bedford.
On Thursday, Detectives developed information that McCoy would be travelling to 7-11 located at 29 Memorial Boulevard in Newport to distribute Crack Cocaine. Detectives obtained a search warrant for his vehicle and set-up surveillance of the parking lot.
At about 12:45 p.m., McCoy pulled into the parking lot and 2 marked Newport Police vehicles along with Newport Police Detectives pulled in behind McCoy’s vehicle. As the uniformed officers approached his vehicle, McCoy attempted to flee the area and collided with 2 parked vehicles in the lot and then got his vehicle stuck on a wood pile. McCoy exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was taken into custody.
One of the parked vehicles was occupied, but no one was injured.
Also in the fleeing vehicle was 21-year-old Jacques Jeanty of New Bedford who was taken into custody without incident.
McCoy was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Schedule I/II, Controlled Substance Conspiracy, Reckless Driving and Obstructing an Officer in the Execution of Duty. Jeanty was charged with 2 counts of Possession with Intent to Deliver Schedule I/II and Controlled Substance Conspiracy.
McCoy and Jeanty were held overnight at the Newport Police Station and were arraigned in Newport District Court on Friday. McCoy and Jeanty were held without bail with a status conference scheduled for Tuesday.
