Two men wanted for role in murder of 40-year-old Mike Jonas captured in Maine
Two suspects were arrested yesterday in Lewiston, Maine, on active warrants related to a fatal shooting that occurred in downtown Brockton last September, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
Michael Thompson, 35, faces a charge of first-degree murder, while Dayana Slade, 25, is charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the killing of 40-year-old Mike Jonas. Both had been fugitives for months following the incident.
The shooting took place around 4:15 p.m. on September 23, 2025, at Finnegan Park near the intersection of Crescent Street and Montello Street. Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office responded and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other—Jonas—was taken to a Brockton hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased despite resuscitation efforts.
Preliminary investigation revealed that an altercation had occurred at the park just before the shooting. Authorities identified Thompson as the suspected shooter and obtained surveillance footage showing him leaving the scene in a black Nissan Rogue accompanied by two women, one of whom was later identified as Slade. The vehicle was subsequently located and seized by Weymouth Police as part of the homicide investigation.
Thompson and Slade were apprehended through a collaborative effort involving the United States Marshals Service, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Plymouth County, and local law enforcement agencies.
Both suspects are expected to appear in court for arraignment hearings in the coming days.
