Two local police departments have added new adorable co-workers to their employee rolls.
The Norton Police Department announced Thursday the newest addition to their Department, K-9 Ryder.
Ryder was appointed by the Town Selectboard. He is 11 weeks old and attending the puppy academy. He will be actively involved in community policing assignments throughout the town. He came to the Department from Golden Opportunities for Independence (GOFIDOG)service dog program.
His handler is Det. Rachel Mailloux who is a 15-year veteran, assigned to the Detective Division and also a part time SRO in the elementary schools.
The Tiverton Police Department has also recently added a cute K-9 to their ranks.
Blue is the Department’s first ever comfort/therapy dog officer. Officer Shaun Wilson is his handler, and he came to TPD through Boonefield Labradors which is based in New Hampshire.
Blue has quickly become so popular that he even has his own Facebook page that documents his adventures. He has already visited Tiverton High School, Town Hall, the library, the fire department, and even Starbucks in Fall River.
