Two from Rhode Island face several drug and animal cruelty charges after 11 dogs found in deplorable living conditions
Two Rhode Island residents are facing drug an animal cruelty charges after an arrest this week.
According to Det. Lt. Dan Ashworth, the Pawtucket Police Department’s Narcotics Unit along with members of the Pawtucket Police Department’s K-9 Unit, executed a court-ordered search warrant at Don Court in the city of Pawtucket. The search warrant was issued after an extensive investigation by the Pawtucket Police Narcotics Unit into distribution of large amounts of Cocaine from the residence into several surrounding communities.
While the search warrant was executed, members of the Pawtucket Police Department located 11 dogs inside of the residence in deplorable living conditions. Pawtucket Animal Control responded to the residence and took custody of all 11 dogs and transported them to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter to be evaluated and cared for.
Inside of the residence detectives located approximately 50 grams of Cocaine, 1 pound of
packaged marijuana, digital scales, packaging material, and approximately $5,000 in cash.
50-year-old Rafael Diaz and 26-year-old Jamira Jenkins were arrested and charged with Manufacturing/Possession with intent to Deliver 1oz.-1 kilo, Possession with intent to Deliver-Schedule I/II (Cocaine), Possession with intent to Deliver-Schedule I/II (Marijuana), Maintaining a common nuisance, Distribution/Manufacturing of a controlled substance-In or near a school, Conspiracy, and 11 counts of Unnecessary Cruelty to Animals.
