At approximately 3:08 a.m. today, Brockton Police began receiving 911 calls reporting a head-on crash on Route 27 in the area of Route 24, and Brockton Police and emergency medical personnel responded. Upon arrival, they observed a blue 2009 Volkswagen Jetta in the left lane of Route 27 north facing in a southerly direction. They observed a gray 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe in the left lane of Route 27 north facing in a northerly direction. The 30 year old female operator of the Jetta was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital before she was transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston with life-threatening injuries. There were two females inside the Hyundai. The passenger, a 39 year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female operator of the vehicle, age 66, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Brockton Police contacted State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and an investigation commenced.
Preliminarily, investigators have determined that the operator of the Jetta was traveling in a southerly direction in the wrong direction in the left lane of Route 27 northbound when she collided with the Hyundai Santa Fe, which was traveling in the left lane of Route 27 North in a northerly direction. A third vehicle, a 2000 red Chevy Tahoe was traveling in the right lane of Route 27 northbound and collided with the Jetta after the initial crash. The male operator of the Tahoe was uninjured and refused medical treatment at the scene.
