Tragedy strikes Fall River couple as 5-month-old son dies suddenly
To say that a young Fall River boy has died too soon can’t be a bigger understatement.
According to an obituary, Carter Levi Fountaine, born on March 30th, passed away on Tuesday.
A call came into dispatch just before 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday on Robeson Street for a baby, reportedly Carter, not breathing.
“I wanted to reach out to share the heartbreaking events that unfolded on September 23, 2025—an unimaginable day that has forever changed our lives.
“That morning, my daughter went to check on Carter in his crib, as she did every day. To her horror, she found him with a blue tint to his skin, an alarming sight that instantly filled her with dread. Without a moment’s hesitation, she called for an ambulance, desperately seeking help for her precious son. The paramedics arrived quickly and worked tirelessly. Transferred him to Charlton and they worked on him for a full 30 minutes. However, despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
“In the aftermath, he was taken to the medical examiner’s office located in Sandwich, Massachusetts, where a thorough investigation is set to take place. My heart aches with a profound sense of loss and confusion. I have so many questions, and all I long for are answers that can explain what happened to my beautiful grandson. I can’t shake the feeling that this might be related to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), but without concrete information, the uncertainty is unbearable.
“This entire experience feels like a surreal nightmare from which I cannot wake up. Each moment drags on painfully, and the anticipation regarding the forthcoming autopsy report is excruciating. I’ve been told it may take up to three months to receive the results, and I find myself counting the days, desperate for clarity and understanding.
“South Coast waived all fees but we need to pay for the plot and head stone.”
The family invites all those touched by Carter’s life to join them in celebrating his memory. A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 09:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Southcoast Funeral Home, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River, Massachusetts.
Following this, the celebration of Carter’s life will commence at 11:00 AM presided over by Chaplain and Life Celebrant Ines Bates in the same venue. A committal service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, 765 Prospect Street, Fall River, Massachusetts, at 12:00 PM.
