Tiverton woman suffers painful injury after being thrown from ATV vehicle

A Tiverton woman is attempting to recover from a painful injury that recently occurred.

According to family members and a GoFundMe fundraiser, last week, Monique Couto reportedly suffered a tragic accident while in Portugal resulting in surgery.

An ATV that Couto was riding on hit a bump and she was thrown into the air, breaking her back. She had surgery on Sunday morning with 6 pins and a metal plate and is trying to get home.

“I am praying I can get on a plane on Friday to come back home. It doesn’t look so promising as I am still in excruciating pain. My spirits are down and I am just asking all of you to keep me in your prayers. This has not been an easy road…. I need to get home. I need all the prayers I can get.”

Currently, Couto is laying in the hospital unable to move without assistance and it is unknown when she will be able to return stateside or work again.
