Tiverton Police release identity of 40-year-old man killed in fatal motor vehicle crash

Tiverton, RI – The Tiverton Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday. 

According to police, at just after 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Eight Rod Way and Morning Dove Drive for a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a vehicle that had struck a tree. 

Upon arrival, officers located a red Toyota RAV4 that had sustained severe damage after leaving the roadway and colliding with a tree. 

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as a 40-year-old Matthew J. Poirier of Tiverton. He was found unresponsive at the scene and was extricated from the vehicle by Tiverton Rescue personnel. The operator was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. 

At this time, there is no indication that any other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Tiverton Police Department. 

The Tiverton Police Department extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
