Local police are looking for the public’s help after a dog was found deceased under suspicious circumstances.

According to police, on September 1st just before 4:30 p.m., a 27-gallon black and red storage bin was discovered in the water near the Tiverton Yacht Club on 58 Riverside Drive.

Upon inspection, officers located the remains of a dog in the bin.

Police stated that “the canine was wrapped in a red, button-down long-sleeve shirt, along with three bags of ice and a pillow. The dog is described as an approximately 8-year-old, unspayed female, possibly a Labrador/Pit Bull mix. She was black in color with a small white patch of fur on her chest, and weighed an estimated 60-80 pounds.”

No microchip, tattoos, or identifying markings were found.

Based on an initial inspection by police, it is possible the deceased dog may have been, or was recently, pregnant.
