Tiverton Police arrest man in multiple armed robberies

On December 5th, the Dania Mart gas station located at 861 Main Road was held up at knife-point by a masked male who threatened the clerk and stole approximately $400.00 in cash.

On December 12th, the Dania Mart station was again held up at knife-point by a male who matched the description of the suspect in the first robbery. Officers and Detectives reviewed video surveillance and spoke to residents surrounding the gas station. Detectives were able to ID a Toyota Camry as a possible suspect vehicle.

On December 16th, a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on a side street adjacent to the gas station was reported to our HQ. The vehicle was described as a Toyota Camry. Officers went to the Dania mart and spoke with the clerk who stated a male who matched the description of the suspect in the previous robberies had attempted to rob the store but fled into the woods.

Lieutenant Scott Beaulieu, Corporal Joseph Wieszbicki, and Officer Bryan Codner found the suspicious vehicle parked on a side street and waited to see if the suspect would return. A short time later, the suspect did return and was taking in custody by the officers.

The suspect was identified as Shane Williams, 29, of Hayden Avenue, Tiverton. Williams was charged with two counts of first degree robbery and arraigned at Tiverton Police Department Headquarters on December 17th. The suspect was also presented as a bail violator and ordered held at the ACI. Williams was on bail based on pending charges of larceny from the East Providence Police Department.
