Tiverton High School dance postponed after threat
A high school semi-formal dance that was supposed to be held on Friday night has been postponed after a student overheard another student making a threat.
The Tiverton Police received a call from the school department on Friday afternoon after a parent told an administrator at the high school that their child overheard a student making a threat involving the dance.
Tiverton Police have identified the student and the parents are being extremely cooperative. The decision to cancel was made at a time when there was limited information about the validity of the threat, police stated. The Department wants to reassure citizens that there is no danger. Police are currently working with the school administration and their teachers to evaluate all threats to schools. Given the student was identified and the threat was specific to the high school dance; police decided to allow the activities at the other schools to continue with police presence.
It is unclear at this time if charges will be filed against the student who made the threat.
