Tiverton Fire Department extinguishes vehicle fire that temporarily shuts down highway

A vehicle fire on a local highway caused a disruption Monday afternoon.

According to the Tiverton Fire Department, just after noon, firefighters responded to Route 177 in the area of Quintal Drive for a reported vehicle fire. Crews arrived to find the vehicle fully involved.

Route 177 was temporarily shut down but has since reopened to traffic. Rhode Island Energy also responded due to damage to a nearby utility pole.

No injuries were reported.
