Fall River, MA – Mayor Paul E. Coogan has announced the appointment of a seven-person advisory committee that will conduct interviews and make a recommendation to fill the position of Chief of Police.
According to the Mayor’s Office, the committee is made up of a cross-section of the community including law enforcement, health care, neighborhood leaders and the faith-based community. Those who were appointed to the committee will be revealed after the interviews and recommendations are made.
The interviews will take place on Thursday, April 30th and the committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Mayor for his consideration.
There are three internal candidates for the position from the Fall River Police Department ranks. According to the Mayor’s Office, the 3 internal candidates are Interim Chief Charles Cullen, Captain Jeffrey Cardoza, and Captain Michael Duarte.
The interviews will not be conducted in a public forum so as to adhere to the COVID-19 protocol for social distancing.
Former Fall River Police Chief Albert Dupere stepped down in early March after Mayor Paul Coogan decided not to renew Dupere’s contract at the end of the year.
Coogan tapped Charles Cullen on an interim basis until a new chief is selected.
