Third child dies in months, including Massachusetts boy, from Tik-Tok challenge
A 12-year-old boy from Oklahoma has become the most recent boy to die from the “Black Out” challenge.
The challenge involves intentionally trying to choke yourself or another person in an an effort to obtain a brief euphoric state or high, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to Bethany Police and ABC5, a call came in shortly before midnight Monday for a child lying down at the Western Oaks Apartments in Bethany.
“When they got on scene, the first initial officer located the juvenile who was unresponsive,” Bethany police Lt. Angelo Orefice said. “He wasn’t breathing and noticed that he had ligature marks around his neck.”
“Kids are bored, and they’re trying new things. And parents really have to start watching their social media,” Orefice said.
The death comes just months after a 12-year-old boy in Colorado died and just last month, a Massachusetts child died after attempting the challenge.
